About Great American Roofing
29 Years. One Standard. Yours.
How Shane Built Great American Roofing
Shane didn't start in a boardroom. He started on a roof. Back in 1997, he picked up the trade the old-fashioned way — working with experienced roofers, learning every part of the job from tear-off to ridge cap, developing an instinct for what a roof really needs versus what a homeowner can be upsold. He also learned skills that most modern roofers have never picked up: Shane solders flashings. Full metal-to-metal bonds at every valley, chimney, pipe boot, and wall junction — the way it was done before the industry traded craft for caulk guns.
Over the years, that hands-on experience turned into a reputation. Word spread across Greater Cincinnati, through Northern Kentucky and Southern Indiana — and eventually beyond. Shane and his team took on major commercial projects in South Bend and Merrillville, Indiana, then stretched further to Detroit and Lansing, Michigan, and residential work all the way to Tampa, Florida. The work kept coming because the work was right.
"When you call Great American Roofing, you're talking to the people doing your roof — not a call center, not a salesperson. That accountability is what we're built on."
Great American Roofing Company is a family-owned, owner-operated business headquartered in Dry Ridge, KY — Grant County, just south of the Ohio line. Shane oversees every project personally. He knows what good work looks like because he's been doing it for nearly three decades, and he signs his name to every job. That's not a sales pitch — that's how the business has worked from day one.
The Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Southern Indiana is home. Shane's team are neighbors working in the communities where they live. That closeness drives the standard: every roof gets done right because the roofer is accountable to the community, not just a contract.

Our Values
These aren't corporate talking points. They're the principles that guide every inspection, every bid, and every job we complete.
Honest Assessments
We tell you exactly what your roof needs — and only what it needs. We don't pad estimates or recommend work that isn't necessary. If a repair will hold, we'll say so. If a full replacement is the right call, we'll show you why.
Quality Materials
We spec the right product for your roof — not the cheapest option on the market. Every project uses manufacturer-approved materials appropriate for your climate, roof pitch, and budget. No shortcuts on your largest investment.
Accountability
Every job carries our name. If something isn't right, we make it right — no runaround, no finger-pointing. Shane's personal number is on every contract.
Community
The Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Southern Indiana is home, not just a market. Our military and first responder discounts aren't a marketing gimmick — they're how we give back to the people who protect this community every day.
The Detail Most Roofers Skip
Walk behind almost any modern roofing company and you'll see the same thing at every flashing point — a bead of caulk or lap sealant slapped over the metal joint, painted over, and called done. It looks fine. For a few years. Then it cracks, shrinks, and fails. And the leak starts at exactly the point where the flashing meets the roof surface.
Shane learned to solder flashings — a skill from the tin man era that the roofing industry largely abandoned when tube sealants became cheap and fast. Soldering creates a permanent, waterproof metal-to-metal bond at every critical junction: valley flashings, chimney counterflashing, pipe boots, skylight perimeters, and wall-to-roof intersections.
These are the #1 leak points on any roof. Every one of them. When they're soldered correctly, they don't fail. There's no joint to crack, no sealant to shrink, no gap to form over ten winters. The metal is fused. It either holds or it doesn't — and when it's done right, it holds for the life of the roof.
- Valley flashings — where two roof planes meet and water concentrates
- Chimney counterflashing and step flashing — the #1 source of interior leaks
- Pipe boot flashings — every penetration through the roof deck
- Skylight perimeters — notoriously difficult flashing points
- Wall-to-roof junctions — dormers, additions, and abutting walls
This takes more time and more skill than running a caulk gun. Shane does it anyway — and combines it with modern installation efficiency so jobs still get done right and done fast. You get the craftsmanship of the old school with the speed of a professional modern operation.
Why Soldering Matters vs. Sealants
-
Permanent Bond
Soldered metal joints are fused — there's no adhesive to degrade, no sealant to crack, no material to shrink with temperature cycling. The bond is the same material as the metal itself.
-
Doesn't Age Out
Caulk and sealants have a functional service life of 5–10 years before UV exposure, thermal movement, and weathering cause failure. Soldered joints don't age out. They last as long as the metal itself.
-
No Maintenance Cycle
A sealant-flashed roof needs to be re-caulked every few years to stay watertight at penetration points. A soldered roof doesn't. Once it's done, it's done.
-
Rare in Modern Roofing
Most roofing companies don't employ anyone who knows how to solder. It's a dying trade skill. When you hire Great American Roofing, you're getting craftsmanship that most roofing companies simply cannot offer.
Owner-Operated. Every Project.
Great American Roofing is headquartered in Dry Ridge, KY — Grant County. Shane and his team show up to every job fully prepared, with the right equipment and materials, ready to work. No surprises, no delays, no shortcuts.
Great American Roofing runs differently than a large roofing company. There's no national call center, no 1-800 number routing you to a stranger. Shane oversees every project personally — from first inspection to final walkthrough.
Every person working on your home has been personally vetted by Shane. We don't hand your roof off to whoever's available — we put the same experienced people on every job who take the same pride in the work that we do.
We also take on large commercial projects, which means the team is equipped and experienced for large-scale, multi-building, and industrial work — not just residential replacements. That commercial experience makes us better residential roofers: we're held to tighter tolerances, faster timelines, and stricter quality standards on those jobs.
"Great American Roofing takes pride in every installation — from the first nail to the final inspection."
